Reliquary.

Foundation is an autobiographical project that encapsulates aspects of my personality and ethnicity. The piece is dominated by three oversized legs, monolithic in their shape and simple in their construction. These three legs signify the importance of a strong foundation and symbolize my Korean, Chinese, and Jamaican heritage. The body of the piece continues the theme of 3’s in its construction.

Unlike the imposing and bulky base, the top is constructed of much finer pieces. Additionally, the three “faces” of the body are cut with the symbols on the Republic of Korea’s flag symbolizing air, water, earth, and fire. The intricacy of assembly embodies the more intricate aspects of my personality as well as conveying growth from my foundation.

The piece stands at just over 7 in. tall and 5 in. wide at the base. It is constructed from 1/4th and 1/8th in. MDF. The piece is pressure fit and has internal locking mechanisms that allow assembly without glue, fasteners, or hardware. Foundation was designed in TinkerCad and processed using Adobe Suite.
